WHAT TO EXPECT

On the water practices last 1-1/2 hours and include technique drills, race pieces, and endurance intervals. We are always working to improve, and new paddlers are encouraged to progress at their own pace until they build strength and endurance.

WHAT TO WEAR & BRING

For practice, wear comfortable clothing that dries quickly, and water shoes or water-friendly sandals with heel straps. Flip-Flops are not allowed.

We recommend sunglasses with a strap to help keep them from falling in the water if they slip off your face. Be sure to apply sunscreen and bring a hat.

Hydration is important, so bring a full water bottle, preferably one with a built-in or flip-up spout (rather than a screw-off cap). If you have water gloves (such as you might wear for kayaking or water-skiing), they will help you keep a good grip on your paddle.

You’ll want a warm jacket and pants for after practice. It can get cool when the sun sets.

We do not recommend purchasing any special clothing or equipment until you have had a chance to decide whether dragon boat paddling is for you. We will initially provide you with a loaner paddle and life vest (PFD—personal flotation device).
