Vancouver (aka “RainCouver”)
How exciting to travel internationally with each other for a dragon boat competition in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, June 18-19.
The first day of competition, Saturday, was extremely wet and cold. There was no escaping the nearly constant rain. Some teammates claimed they were colder than they have ever been in their lives!
However, the weather could not freeze our spirits, and the second day was much drier and warmer than the first. After a close final, we placed 4th overall in the Breast Cancer Survivor division, barely missing the bronze medal. We will paddle even harder next time! We had stiff competition and enjoyed the challenge.
Of course, many of us managed to work in quite a bit of site-seeing after the festival and enjoyed a lot of bonding time with each other. On to the next race! We hope to bring home some hardware next time…
